Research Focus:
Bioremediation of volatile organic contaminants in soil and groundwater.
Personal Statement:
My research goals are geared toward understanding the biological and environmental parameters that govern microbial transformation of anthropogenic contaminants of soil, air, and water. My previous research centered on cometabolic attenuation of chlorinated solvents in groundwater. In my doctoral research, I hope to expand my experience to include petroleum-derived contaminants (i.e. BTEX, oxygenates) and the development of novel nanoscale approaches for characterizing environmentally important microbial processes.
